The current SFRPC’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) was adopted on September 10, 2007. It provides economic information and technical assistance to local governments, private businesses, and neighborhood-based organizations with respect to the creation and expansion of employment opportunities. The objective is to coordinate economic development programs with local, state and federal agencies to obtain financial assistance to meet the Economic Development District planning objectives. The Council’s efforts will provide an environment that supports economic development throughout the South Florida Region. This focus assists in promoting activities toward international trade, international and domestic tourism, small and minority business development, environmental issues, employment issues, community development, urban redevelopment and infill, and injecting new capital into our South Florida economy. Establishing an effective and efficient economic development plan will contribute to the continued diversification of our South Florida economy, encourage stability and build community commitment. Public works and economic
adjustment projects funded by EDA must be consistent with the CEDS
approved by EDA for the SFRPC Region. This statutory requirement ensures
sound planning and coordination of local, State and Federal funding in
response to local needs and development objectives. For most grants, the
pre-application is expected to show how the project will address economic
development needs and objectives outlined in the CEDS. The
South Florida Regional Planning Council has updated the
