In February, Council
staff entered into a contract with the City of Miami to provide a retreat
for their Model City Homeownership Trust. Staff along with the City
of Miami, Adkins & Associates, and the Model City Community
Revitalization Trust was responsible for a day and a half workshop
designed to bring the Model City Community Revitalization Trust and the City of Miami City Commission together with
program leaders with similar experiences from Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA
and Cleveland, OH. The workshop began on Thursday with a tour of the
Model City area for the speakers and other interested parties followed by
a reception. Additionally, the Trust was formalized and provided
with discussion on such topics as governance, financing and resources
needed in their new role. Overall the event was a success with
approximately 100 people in attendance including Trust members, the City
of Miami Commission, speakers and community stakeholders. The
Orientation took place June 13-15, 2002.
Additionally from June 2-7, ULI held a 5-day advisory panel studying the area and assisted the City of Miami in determining best alternatives for Model City revitalization. Kenneth Bacchus, one of the ULI Advisory Panel members attended the June 13-15 Orientation to report the ULI findings.
