On September 16, 2003, the South Florida Economic Forecasting Partnership was formed, with the participation of the South Florida Regional Planning Council, the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, the South Florida Water Management District, and Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.  The purpose of the partnership is to enhance the ability to conduct demographic and economic analysis and forecasting in the Southeast Florida region, composed of the 7 counties in the jurisdiction of the two Regional Planning Councils.

In order to support this purpose, the Partnership acquired an 8-region, 53-sector version of Policy Insight, a demographic and economic forecasting model developed by Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI).  The eight “regions” of the model are:

Partners

  • Monroe County
  • Miami-Dade County
  • Broward County
  • Palm Beach County
  • Martin County
  • St. Lucie County
  • Indian River County
  • Remainder of the State of Florida

Identical copies of the model have been installed in seven locations:

  • each of the two Regional Planning Councils;

  • the South Florida Water Management District; and

  • Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties.

Martin County will use the model through the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council.

Currently, the South Florida Economic Forecasting Partnership is developing a Regional Profile - a comprehensive analysis of the 7-county regional economy and population.  Click here for the latest draft.
